A Choreographic Methodology – Master Class Ioannis Mandafounis

As part of the Triple Bill performed by Lyon Opera Ballet, Ioannis Mandafounis created a captivating new solo in collaboration with dancer Yan Leiva.

Mandafounis draws on this work, a piece that contrasts meticulous choreography with improvisation, to explore the idea of instant composition and live choreography. In this workshop, he will guide participants through physical and emotional elements that help us make choices in live situations.

How do we behave when we are on stage, when we are performing or when we’re exposed to the audience? What is the emotional impact and how does it affect our performative skills? Explore these questions through movement and discover new techniques through practiced exercises. Participants will also have access to a film which delves into the techniques in more detail.

Before becoming a freelance choreographer, Mandafounis was part of the Gothenburg Opera Ballet, the Nederlands Dans Theater II and in 2005 became a member of the Forsythe Company where remains a regular guest.
