The Casement Project, Bodies Politic Symposium, Feb 25
Fearghus Ó Conchúir's The Casement Project starts with Bodies Politic, a symposium that brings together artists and academics to discuss the bodies of individuals and the body of the state in the context of the 1916 commemorations. Fearghus has invited four of the Arts Council’s ART:2016 commissions, and one of GPO’s Witness History commissions (Dublin Dance Festival's Embodied) to introduce their work and to enter into dialogue with academics from a variety of disciplines. The aim is to generate new forms of knowledge at the intersection of this academic and artistic exchange and to provide the public with deeper insights into the practice of some of Ireland’s foremost artists, as they engage with this significant moment of national commemoration.
The artistic works that will be presented are:
These Rooms, ANU and Coisceim Dance Theatre
Dublin Dance Festival's Embodied, Jazmín Chiodi, Sibéal Davitt, junk ensemble (Jessica Kennedy & Megan Kennedy), Liv O’Donoghue, Jessie Keenan, Emma O’Kane, and Liz Roche
In the Shadow of the State, Jesse Jones and Sarah Browne
Future Histories, Áine Phillips and Niamh Murphy
The Casement Project, Fearghus Ó Conchúir
Also speaking at the event will be Chair of the Arts Council, Shiela Pratschke and writer and activist, Rosaleen McDonagh.
