When she was a teenager, Selina Thompson thought that Missy Elliott and her afro-futurist-dancing-up-the walls-fisheye-camera-taking-up-space genius might be the blueprint for her freedom. A decade later, she’s seeing what today’s teenagers have to say.
The Missy Elliott Project invites young women of colour to imagine a RADICAL NEW FUTURE! Already successfully rolled out in four cities, DDF is delighted to team up with award-winning artist Selina Thompson to bring this project to Dublin.
In this live performance and digital exchange project young people will work with performance artist, FeliSpeaks (aka Felicia Olusanya), song-writer and music producer, Fehdah, designer and producer, Thaís Muniz and choreographer, Emmy Lahouel to create an experience with all the energy and excitement of an old-school Missy Elliott video, while meeting new friends and imagining an exciting and limitless world.
Part of the year-round DDF Extended programme, this project explores the lived experience of young women of colour in Dublin.
The Selina Thompson company previously participated in Open Studio - a creative lab exploring live and digital performance-making for younger audiences. Open Studio was produced by Dublin Dance Festival and Live Collision.
