Podcast inspiration for lockdown days
Are you in need of some podcast inspiration to keep you entertained for the long weekend ahead?
We seldom get time to go behind-the-scenes, to hear from the artists we love to see on stage, to learn more about their work and the impact it has on audiences and communities.
But in this strange social-distanced theatre-going hiatus we are experiencing, it seems like the perfect time to listen to the Dance Today Podcast Series and be inspired by the incredible talent, vision and creativity of dance artists in Ireland.
In this podcast series created in 2019 in partnership with our lovely friends at Dance World and Dance Ireland, we go deeper into dance. We hear about the impact dance festivals have on audiences, dance artists and the development of dance; the role collaborations have in the development of work; and the impact dance has on society outside performance.
So grab a cup of coffee or tea, sit back in a comfy chair and enjoy...
Episode 1: Dance writer and critic Michael Seaver chats to Benjamin Perchet (Artistic Director, Dublin Dance Festival) and Jenny Traynor (Director, Dance Limerick) delves into chats to programming decisions and the impact dance festivals have on audiences, dance artists and the development of work.
Episode 2: In conversation with Louise Costelloe (Programme Manager, Dance Ireland), choreographers Liz Roche and Dylan Quinn share their thoughts on the impact of political and social circumstances, keeping the creative impulse active and the value of relationships in creating dance work.
Episode 3: In this episode, Louise Costelloe talks to dancer and choreographer Lucia Kickham about the role collaborations have in the development of her work and how her approach has been influenced by her experiences as a dancer.
Episode 4: The final episode in this series looks at why we dance and the impact dance has on society outside of performance. This episode features Lisa McLoughlin (dancer, choreographer and teacher at Irish World Academy) in conversation with Fearghus Ó Conchúir (Artistic Director of National Dance Company Wales and Deputy Chair of the Arts Council, Ireland) and Tobi Omoteso (Director Top 8, freelance dance artist / Hip Hop Innovator and Street Dancer).
