Ms Céline Place during a ceremony at the Résidence de France.
The honour is being bestowed on Ms Chiodi in recognition of her significant work in the arts and the promotion of France-Ireland relations.
Born in Argentina and settled in Ireland since 2005, Jazmín Chiodi has built a remarkable career as a choreographic artist, curator, and cultural leader.
Jazmín’s connection to France dates back to her youth when she realised her dream of pursuing her training in France, joining the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, directed by Mathilde Monnier, and collaborating with leading French choreographers such as Hélène Cathala, Fabrice Ramalingom, and Patrice Barthes. Rooting her professional journey within the French choreographic ecosystem, she worked and performed in France from 2003 to 2005.
Relocating to Ireland, Jazmín became a vital force in the dance community, forging strong connections with the local choreographic scene. Liz Roche was among her first professional anchors. Today, Liz Roche directs the newly established Luail – Ireland's National Dance Company, which will open the 21st Edition of Dublin Dance Festival with the world premiere of their work Chora at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in May this year.
Jazmín co-founded Tipperary Dance and the Tipperary International Dance Festival with choreographer Alexandre Iseli, which she co-directed for 12 years. Through this work, she fostered intercultural collaborations and welcomed artists from France and across Europe, contributing to a lasting artistic dialogue between both countries.
Since 2021, Jazmín has been the Artistic Director of Dublin Dance Festival (DDF), working closely with co-director Carina McGrail and her team. The festival, held each May, offers ambitious programmes showcasing the diversity and innovation of contemporary dance, and offering an essential platform for creators from Ireland, Europe, and around the world.
Within the framework of DDF, and with the support of the French Embassy and the Institut français, Jazmín has been strengthening artistic ties between France and Ireland. In recent years, she has presented major artists such as Emmanuel Gat, Olivier Dubois and Nach, as well as the hip-hop artists of Collectif FAIR-E who were in residence for DDF2024. Also in 2024, a new international exchange programme involving the Maison de la Danse / Biennale de Lyon was launched. Recently, Jazmín participated in the strategic meeting of the Ministry of Culture, Mieux produire, Mieux diffuser, a gathering of prominent voices from French and international networks to discuss the future development of new models for transnational collaboration in dance.
This award recognises Jazmín Chiodi’s commitment to artistic exchanges between France and Ireland and her crucial role in promoting French artists on the international stage.
Speaking at the event, Jazmín Chiodi said “I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition for what has been, and continues to be, my life’s work - connecting people through dance. Dance has the power to inspire us, foster understanding, and bring people together. I am grateful for the collaborators, mentors and communities who have shaped this journey, and I sincerely thank the French Ministry of Culture for this honour.”
The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) was established in 1957 and is awarded by the French Ministry of Culture to those who have made significant contributions to the arts and culture in France and throughout the world.
Jazmín Chiodi has been nominated as a Chevalier in the Order.
