#FestivalFlashback - Opening Performance No. 4: The Forsythe Company
Answering Dublin's craving for dance, DDF shifted gears in 2008 to become Ireland's annual showcase of the best Irish and international contemporary dance.
Launching its first annual edition, DDF opened the 2018 Festival with yet another heavy hitter on the international contemporary dance scene.
One of the most influential forces in dance, choreographer William Forsythe and his company made their Irish premiere with Three Atmospheric Studies.
'A work that takes the temperature of war, analysing its physical states rather then turning it into drama... restless, angry, unaccommodating.' The Guardian
Explicit and political, Forsythe's choreography in this piece was simultaneously furious and reflective, creating imposing images of war through the human body.
Unsurprisingly, this powerful performance captured DDF audiences, setting the tone for another incredible Festival that celebrated the best emerging and established international and home-grown talent.
