DDF returns to ELECTRIC PICNIC with DANCE DAYS!

DANCE DAYS at Electric Picnic, 1-3 September 2017
Presented by Dublin Dance Festival

Feeling bashful about your dance moves? Need to indulge your inner dancing self? You can do both at DANCE DAYS - a free workshop series at Electric Picnic brought to you by Dublin Dance Festival. We’re going global this year with workshops in Tango and Bollyrobics. We have new Dance Hoop and Zumba sessions, as well as the old festival favorites - B-Boying, Jazz and the Charleston. There’s something for every Picnicker!

Workshops are suitable for all levels - no experience necessary. You can check out the style of the workshop in advance at the demos. Drop in and learn how to bust a move at DANCE DAYS!

Workshop Descriptions

Festival Zumba - Justyna Mikolajczyk
Join Justyna as she brings Zumba to Electric Picnic for the first time. Designed to bring people together to get their sweat on, this workshop will mix low-intensity and high intensity moves to create a fun and energetic dance fitness party. With a soundtrack of Latin and world rhythms, you’ll be sure to have a pep in your step for the rest of the day. Bring a friend and join the dance party! Perfect for every body and everybody!

Dance has been a huge part of Justyna Mikolajczyk’s life. She danced throughout her pregnancy, praising Zumba classes for keeping her fit and healthy. Justyna is a qualified Fitness Instructor, Certified Zumba® instructor, ZIN member and Move Me Ireland team member. As part of a dance group, she has performed extensively throughout London, Poland, Portugal and Ireland. Justyna is also a presenter at the International Fitness Convention in Dublin each year.

Hoop Dance - Laura Ivers
Want to try something new? Hoop Dance is just the activity for you! A newcomer to the Dance Days line-up, Hoop Dance is a style of hula hoop that encourages participants to learn some easy, basic moves and techniques. Brought to you by two of Ireland’s top hula hoopers, this taster workshop will allow you to get creative, dance freely with a hoop and learn about “flow”.

Laura has been a circus enthusiast since picking up juggling at the NUI Maynooth Juggling Society in 2011 while completing her Philosophy Masters. Starting hoop and juggling over the years Laura has expanded her circus practice and performance to include club passing, clowning and partner acrobatics. Laura is also on the Board of Directors of the Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network (ISACS) and when not playing circus, Laura is busy working as Community Associate at the CoderDojo Foundation.

B-Boying – Breakdancing & Hip Hop: Tobi Omoteso
Have you ever wondered how to do the cabbage patch or the one-two step like you see in music videos? Well wonder no more! Fresh from a sold out run at the 2017 Dublin Dance Festival, Tobi Omoteso makes a welcome return to Electric Picnic to teach you some moves that will be sure to blow your friends away. His B-Boying workshop, a huge hit last year with Festival goers will include some fun, simple moves from the “Baby Freeze” to “Back Spins” and “six steps”. Grab your breakdancing buddy and hit the floor!

Tobi Omoteso has been dancing for over 10 years, having trained in Broadway Dance Centre, New York. Some of his achievements include being awarded Hip-Hop King of Ireland six years in a row, winning the Hip-Hop All-Ireland Crew Championships 2008-2010, placing 6th in a major international competition with his break dance crew Recession Squad Ninjas. Performances include Electric Picnic, Imagine Arts Festival and Dublin Dance Festival, as well as TV appearances in Class Act (RTÉ, 2006), the All Ireland Talent Show (RTÉ 2, 2009), Got to Dance (Sky One, 2012), US TV show Penny Dreadful and multiple music videos and commercial appearances.

All That Jazz! - Lisa Tyrrell, Whynot Dance Company
Have you ever wanted to perform in front of a live audience? Well now is your chance so remove the wellies and come dance! Join Lisa for this slick, jazz dance workshop where her team of dancers will take you through a full body warm up and teach you a jazz routine. Participants and audiences will then perform the routine together in the Dance Days area. Here’s your chance to shine at All That Jazz!

Lisa is the Artistic Director of Whynot Dance Company, a professional Jazz company which she formed in 2008. The company performs regularly for TV, Theatre and corporate events. Lisa also runs a Jazz and Ballet school for adults in Dublin’s city centre. After graduating from The College of Dance Dublin in 1993 she was accepted into London Contemporary Dance School. Professionally she has danced with “Irish Modern Dance Theatre”, “New Balance Dance Company”, and “Chrysalis Dance”. Performances include “The Smirnoff Fashion Awards”, “Le Cenerentola” and “The Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony”. She has also danced in several TV shows and ads.

The Roaring 20's (Charleston) - Lisa Darling, The Irish Burlesque School
Put a spring back in your step and capture the spirit of the 1920’s with this fun workshop from Lisa Darling. The 1920’s are experiencing a huge revival and what better way to get on board than to learn the Charleston?! Danced to hot Jazz music, this workshop will teach the basics before working up to advanced steps, as well as incorporating other 1920’s dances. This style is energetic, upbeat and guaranteed to bring out your inner 1920’s starlet. Suitable for men and women, bring a friend to partner up with and let the fun begin!

Lisa Darling is the Artistic Director of The Irish Burlesque School. She has worked in various musicals, dance shows and theatre productions all over the UK, France, the Abbey Theatre, Dublin and even London’s West End. Lisa directed Ireland’s first Burlesque theatre production, 'Midnight in the Republic,' at the Gaiety Theatre in 2016. She also produces and choreographs Ireland’s biggest burlesque show, 'Some Like it Hot'.

Learn To Tango – Jazmin Chiodi
Experienced professional dancer, Jazmin Chiodi (born in Argentina) comes this year to Electric Picnic to teach you the first steps to Tango along with Alexandre Iseli. This dance is an elegant, sensual and enjoyable way to start dancing! You don’t need a partner to join this workshop but if you have one you can drag ...I mean bring him/her along with you!

Jazmin graduated at the San Martin Contemporary Dance School in Buenos Aires. She moved to France between 2001 and 2005, where she performed with Mathilde Monnier, Fabrice Ramalingom, Patrice Barthes. She now lives in Ireland where she has been performing with Liz Roche Company, Dance Theatre of Ireland, Catherine Young Siamsa Tire, and Fluxusdance. Jazmin approaches movement from three directions: contemporary dance, tango and somatic techniques. In 2016, Jazmin graduated Masters in Festive Arts with first class honours. She teaches at University of Limerick’s MA in Dance Performance and for professional training centres abroad. Together with Alexandre Iseli she set up and runs Tipperary’s first international dance festival: Tipperary Dance Platform.

Bollyrobics - Mili Seth, Bollywood Beats
Bollyrobics is a fusion of Bollywood dance styles and aerobics - it’s intricate, it’s energetic, it’s fun! Mili believes there is a closet Bollywood dancer in all of us. She wants to see you dancing regardless of whether you are serious about learning Bollywood dance or you simply want a lively work-out. She promises to deliver both in this fun workshop!

Mili Seth is a trained Kathak dancer and started learning Kathak at the age of eight. She has always had a tremendous passion for free style dancing to music from Bollywood films. Since moving to Ireland 14 years ago, she has taught Bollywood dance workshops in various primary and secondary schools in Dublin. Her first public performance was with UNITAS at Festival of Colours she hasn’t looked back since. Mili formed Bollywood Beats to teach Bollywood dancing to the next generation of young people.
