DDF Blog: OFFSTAGE with THE FIFTH SUN
Today, Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company took over our Instagram Stories, giving us a rare, exclusive glimpse into the world of the work. We were invited behind the scenes with Mufutau Yusuf, who shared what lies at the heart of The Fifth Sun.
“The Fifth Sun for me is an encounter with grief and with the process of mourning, and how these things move through us (…) What I hope to offer the audience here is a space to feel, to recognise something of themselves, and to sense that even in loss, there is a form of connection. That grief, in a way, is something we never carry alone.”
– Mufutau Yusuf
And you can sense that immediately.
There’s a quiet intensity to what’s being built. Not something loud or overwhelming, but something that lingers. Movement that feels internal before it becomes visible. A work that doesn’t rush. It sits, it listens, it allows space.
What we witnessed was only a glimpse, and already it lingers.
This is a piece that holds space for grief and for connection. An invitation to reflect, and perhaps, to find hope. Join us for this world premiere.
The Fifth Sun runs at the Samuel Beckett Theatre from Wed Thu 14—Sat 16 May at 7:30 PM.
Huge thanks to the team for welcoming us into their process.
