DDF Blog: Offstage with Junk Ensemble's STORM 1.0
Before it hits the stage, STORM 1.0 is already in motion.
We stepped into the rehearsal room during a dry run: a draft of the piece, still forming, still shifting. No audience, just the work, mid-build. And that’s the joy of it.
“Rainy, windy, stormy” that’s how the performers describe it. The title gives that away, and you feel it immediately in the room. But it’s not just the weather, it’s the emotions that come with it.
There’s something rare about seeing a piece at this stage. You catch it before it settles, before it fixes into its final shape. Movement repeats, breaks, rebuilds. Energy moves in waves, sometimes controlled, sometimes not. Maybe that’s the core of the work?
Created by Junk Ensemble, led by Co-Artistic Directors Jessica Kennedy and Megan Kennedy, STORM 1.0 places two dancers inside a constantly shifting world, where wind seeps in, objects refuse to stay still, and the environment itself pushes back.
Even in rehearsal, you could see that: Bodies colliding, recovering, pushing forward again.
So what should you expect? The cast gives a glimpse.
The show, even at this stage, feels deeply human. We can’t wait to see what it becomes on stage!
STORM 1.0 runs at the Samuel Beckett Theatre from Wed 6 May – Fri 8 May at 7:30PM.
This is a world in motion, unsteady, relentless, and human. Huge thanks to the team for letting us into the room. Now it’s your turn. Step into the storm.
