About

Drawing on her simple practice of zer(O)ing, dance artist Mary Nunan invites participants to attune to space – a living field of sensation that we move through and with – to become aware, as we walk, of this sensation traveling lightly through the density and porosity of our bodies and minds. Moving at a mindful pace, participants are encouraged to tune into this field, their heartbeat and the subtle rhythms of the body, cultivating a shared sense of presence and connection.

Together, we sense into what lies “in-between” – between self and surroundings, stillness and motion – discovering it in our own way, as we walk.

About Mary Nunan

Mary Nunan is a dance artist. Throughout her career she has created a substantial body of solo and ensemble choreographies, toured to national and international venues. Markers of time passing include: choreographer, performer with Dublin Contemporary Dance Theatre (1981-86), Founder Artistic Director of Daghdha Dance Company (1988-1999), Inaugural Course Director of the MA Contemporary Dance Performance, UL (1999-2016). Since 2016 she has been working as an independent artist: choreographer, performer, collaborator, writer and simultaneously evolving a movement awareness practice called zer(o)ing: sensing space as a surface, a ground, a dancing partner. Mary earned her PhD Middlesex University (2013). She has published a number of peer-reviewed articles on choreographic process and performance.

This event is part of a series presented with Humanarium, RCSI’s new public space at St Stephen’s Green. In response to the inaugural exhibition Heart: more than a beat, the programme explores heart health through movement and embodied awareness.
