Bastard Amber (Liz Roche Company)

Bastard Amber is a major new work by leading Irish choreographer, Liz Roche. Moving her rigorous exploration of the body into the realm of the soul, this piece is inspired by W.B. Yeats’ seminal poem Sailing to Byzantium and the meditative golden paintings of the late Patrick Scott.

A profound journey into humankind’s spiritual quest, Bastard Amber conjures a lustrous Byzantine world of contradictory influences, a meeting place of East and West.

With an international company of dancers performing alongside live musicians and featuring an original score, Bastard Amber promises to be a provocative and haunting experience.

This landmark production is the first contemporary dance work commissioned for the Abbey stage.
