Praised as “one of the most profound choreographers of his generation” by The New York Times, Ronald K. Brown and the award winning Evidence, A Dance Company blend African, modern, ballet and social dance styles to tell the stories of the African diaspora.

In One Shot, Brown was inspired by the beauty, sense of community and legacy captured by the great African American photographer Charles “Teenie” Harris, nicknamed “One Shot”, because that was all he needed to capture each photograph. One Shot delves into the essence of family, hope, dignity and celebration at the heart of Harris’ art and is both a profound reflection of African American history and universal in theme and resonance.

Evidence, A Dance Company was founded by Ronald K. Brown in Brooklyn, New York, in 1985. Brown uses movement as a way to reinforce the importance of community in African American culture and to acquaint audiences with the beauty of traditional African forms and rhythms. In high demand, he has choreographed for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Ailey II, Cleo Parker Robinson Ensemble, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Jennifer Muller/The Works and Jeune Ballet d’Afrique Noire among others. In autumn 2006 Brown received one of the first United States Artists’ Rose Fellowships.
