RE-PRESENTING IRELAND: A SHOWCASE INITIATIVE BY CULTURE IRELAND, DANCE IRELAND AND DUBLIN DANCE FESTIVAL

DUBLIN DANCE FESTIVAL 14-26 MAY 2013 STRAND 1: Work-in-progress mixed bills at DanceHouse STRAND 2: Fully staged work(s) at the Abbey Theatre, on the Peacock Stage Open Call Deadline: Wednesday 19 December @ 12noon Dance Ireland in association with Dublin Dance Festival and Culture Ireland, invites proposals from choreographers and dance companies (Dance Ireland members) to submit work for consideration for Re-Presenting Ireland: a showcase initiative by Culture Ireland, Dance Ireland and Dublin Dance Festival. Re-Presenting Ireland is an opportunity for national and international programmers and audiences to experience some of the work currently being made in Ireland. It is our intention to curate a programme that is representative of current dance practice and of the very highest standards. It is also a networking opportunity for dance makers to present themselves to their international peers and press during the festival, with the attendant panel discussions, encounters and festival receptions. For 2013 Re-Presenting Ireland will take two forms: Strand 1: mixed bill platform to be held over two weekends at DanceHouse. This is an opportunity to present work-in-progress in a studio-based showcase (up to a max length 15mins) with no technical and minimum set-up requirements. Strand 2: in a new development, applications are invited for proposals for re-staging premiered dance work (or extract from a work) over one weekend at the Abbey Theatre, on the Peacock stage. Works previously staged in the DDF programme will not be considered. • For Strand 2 proposals, please enclose a technical rider. • Theatre rental and technical costs (equipment hire and technical supplies) will be covered; however successful artists / companies may be required to contribute towards the costs of re-mounting the work. Assessment process and criteria • All proposals will be considered by a peer panel, comprising representatives from Culture Ireland, Dance Ireland, Dublin Dance Festival, national and international colleagues. • Selection will be based on the choreographer's track record, suitability of the work and feasibility. • For Strand 2 proposals, the potential of the work to be presented in an international context and the capacity to tour internationally will be an important factor in the selection process. • Final selection will be made by the end of January 2013. • Successful applicants will be invited to a Re-Presenting Ireland briefing session in advance of the festival with representatives from Culture Ireland, Dance Ireland and Dublin Dance Festival. How to apply Proposals should be submitted using the Re-Presenting Ireland application form, and must be accompanied by 5 copies of a DVD of the proposed work; for Strand 2 proposals, please enclosed technical rider. Completed applications should be sent to: Re-Presenting Ireland, Dance Ireland, DanceHouse, Foley Street, Dublin 1, to arrive no later than Wednesday 19 December at 12noon. • Applications will be acknowledged by email, as they are received and checked. • Please note, late applications cannot be accepted. • All applicants (independent dance artists and/or companies) must be members of Dance Ireland.
