E-MOTIONAL: Bodies & cities – Call for proposals for Artistic Research strand

E-MOTIONAL: Bodies & Cities
A European mobility and artistic exchange dance programme

E-MOTIONAL is realised in Ireland by Dublin Dance Festival and Dance Ireland in association with the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance/UL.

ARTISTIC RESEARCH – Call for proposals

The E-MOTIONAL organisers invite proposals for the project’s Artistic Research strand. This strand is one of a number of artistic exchange programmes to be implemented under the E-MOTIONAL project. Others include the recently announced mobility and networking grants.

The flagship of the project, the interdisciplinary Artistic Research strand consists of a series of five cross-border working periods organised alternatively in Dublin, Limassol, Riga, London and Bucharest to question the emotional body and its relation with these cities in the new geographical Europe. Two different artistic teams will embark in a co-authorship process to explore the relation between the human body, the urban and geo-political context and new technologies.

Each artistic team will be composed of five artists, one from each country, who may also come from other disciplines but have an interest in and/or experience with working with dance (i.e. dramaturge, video artist, composer, musician, writer, etc.). The groups will have the chance to interact, work and benefit from the support of up to three local dance artists. In order to develop the chosen theme, each team will be offered three residency periods of up to a maximum of 4 weeks each to take place in two different countries, and one common final residence in Bucharest at the end of the project.

First Group – 5 artists (one from each country) will work in:
1.    Dublin (IE) – May 2012
2.    Limassol (CY) – June 2012
3.    Bucharest (RO) – April 2013

Second Group – 5 artists (one from each country) will work in:
1.    Riga (LV) – September 2012
2.    London (UK) – January 2013
3.    Bucharest (RO) – April 2013

The artistic research will be accompanied by Cosmin Manolescu (choreographer & E-MOTIONAL project leader), who will act as a coach and facilitator during these residencies. Each research period will also include a series of workshops and video-lectures open to local participants and will culminate in an informal presentation open to the local audience in each respective city. The Artistic Research strand will provide an artist’s fee of €2,500, international travel expenses, accommodation and per diems.

Criteria for selection:
•    Artists should show previous involvement in international working contexts;
•    Artists should be prepared to engage in a group research in relation with the theme of the project;
•    Artists should show a clear commitment to participating for the duration of the project and be available for all its phases;
•    Artists should be open, communicative and have advanced social and networking skills;
•    Artists must be over 28 years of age.
