Cynthia Scott’s Flamenco at 5.15, 29 mins (1983)

Dance on Film returns for the autumn/winter season with a look behind the scenes at a flamenco class with a difference – followed by a taster class for you to try flamenco out for yourself!

Oscar-winning short film, Flamenco at 5.15 is an impressionistic record of a flamenco dance class given to senior students of the National Ballet School of Canada by two great teachers from Spain, Susana and Antonio Robledo. The film shows the young North American dancers — inspired by the flamenco rhythms and mesmerized by Susana’s extraordinary energy — joyously engaging with the ancient gypsy culture of flamenco.

After the film, join us downstairs at Light House for a taster class in flamenco, led by Natalia Moyano González, Director of Peña Flamenca el Indalo. No experience necessary – just bring a good sense of humour and let the film inspire you!
