Guest Writer Number 5: Artist Fiona Hallinan

Guest Writer Number 5: Artist Fiona Hallinan

Our fifth and final guest writer on the DDF blog is artist Fiona Hallinan. Fiona creates art projects that connect to their context, such as Heterodyne, an ongoing site-specific audio project that offers soundtracks via mobile phone app for routes in Ireland and elsewhere (like the Military Road in the Wicklow mountains). She is also a cook who designed the original menu for cafe Meet Me In The Morning and who often introduces food into her art projects. For Dublin Dance Festival, Fiona is running a temporary cafe called Dance Food at Project Arts Centre with Phillip McCrilly. The cafe will be open 18 - 28 May (except Sundays), 12 - 3 and 5 - 8.

For her DDF show to review, Fiona chose Extraterrestrial Events by Irish choreographer Philip Connaughton:

I chose Extraterrestrial Events because UFOs are involved and it's a dance piece that is also an opera. And I heard wonderful things about Philip Connaughton's Tardigrade but never got to see it.

Stay tuned to the blog to see what Fiona thought about Extraterrestrial Events. Follow @racklette or @dublindancefest on Twitter for updates.
