Guest Writer Number 2: Illustrator Steve McCarthy

Guest Writer Number 2: Illustrator Steve McCarthy

A self-proclaimed 'bearded gentleman', designer and illustrator Steve McCarthy will be our second guest writer on the blog. Steve's most recent projects include designing the label for the Jameson limited edition St. Patrick's Day 2017 bottle, his first children's book Sally Go Round the Stars, nominated for the Bord Gáis Children's Book of the Year award, and background design for the animated feature film Song of the Sea, nominated for an Academy Award.

For his DDF show to review, Steve chose merry.go.round by Dublin-based Swedish choreographer Maria Nilsson Waller, a piece dealing in the cosmic experience, for better or worse, of romantic love:

The description for merry.go.round mentions 'strange yet familiar', which is at the core of all the work I do visually, plus 'rebel Swedish jazz band' didn't hurt either. I'm fond of anything that seeks to connect the grandiose with the minutiae of human experience. Tell me a star explodes every time I feel blue, and I'll feel small and infinite all at the same time.

Stay tuned to the blog to see what Steve thought about merry.go.round. Follow @racklette or @dublindancefest on Twitter for updates.
