'DANCE DAYS' AT ELECTRIC PICNIC
Presented by Dublin Dance Festival & Dance Ireland

Get down with DANCE DAYS workshops at Electric Picnic!

Feeling bashful about your dance moves? Need to indulge your inner dancing self? You can do both at DANCE DAYS - a workshop series brought to you by Dublin Dance Festival & Dance Ireland. We’re going global this year with Bollywood Beat’s Bollyrobics; a disco version of traditional sean-nós; the salsa and cha cha. We have breakdance; a movement and circus blend, a soul music dance jam and back by popular demand - old school hip hop, jazz and the charleston. All workshops are suitable for all levels. You can check out the style of the workshop at the demos out front, in advance. It’s not a spectator sport! Drop in and learn how to bust a move at DANCE DAYS.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

Salsa, Cha, Cha, Cha: Justine Doswell
Come and have some fun and unleash the Cubanito within! Oil those hips, drop in style, make friends and move together. If you can count to three you can salsa and cha cha cha!
Born in Barbados, Justine grew up in the Caribbean to the sound of steel bands and Cuban congas. It was in Havana that she fell in love with dancing and, aged 12, returned to the UK where she began her professional training as a dancer. In 1997 she made Dublin her home. She has had a diverse career spanning 25 years, travelling the world working in dance, theatre, TV, film and fashion. She teaches a range of dance styles to all ages and abilities.

Old School Hip Hop: Olwyn Lyons
Experience old school Hip Hop - a high energy dance class which focuses on Hip Hop Foundation movement. It will break down the understanding of Old School grooves and beats using the very best of classic Hip Hop tunes.
Tipperary born Olwyn Lyons has been dancing, choreographing and teaching professionally in the Dublin area since 2009. She received a BA Honours Degree in Dance (2009) from De Montfort University, Leicester, U.K. and a Postgraduate Diploma in Dance Studies (2013-2014) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London. Olwyn is trained in many styles of dance including Contemporary, Limon Technique, Hip Hop, Jazz Funk, Alexander Technique, Ballet, Commercial Street Dance, Musical Theatre, Rock and Roll and Salsa.

Nouveau Burlesque (Commercial): Lisa Darling, The Irish Burlesque School
Learn the basics of Nouveau Burlesque, the newest and one of the most exciting forms of Burlesque. Covering Nouveau techniques from walks to hips to isolations and even some twerking! We will then incorporate the style into a seductive Nouveau Burlesque routine.
Lisa Darling is the Artistic Director of The Irish Burlesque School. She has worked in various musicals, dance shows and theatre productions all over the UK, France, The Abbey Theatre Dublin and even London’s West End. Lisa has also directed the first Burlesque theatre production in Ireland, 'Midnight in the Republic' at the Gaiety Theatre in 2016. She produces and choreographs Irelands biggest burlesque show 'Some Like it Hot'.

Taking It Back – Breakdancing & Hip Hop: Tobi Omoteso
Have you ever wondered how to do the cabbage patch or the one-two step like you see in the music videos - well wonder no more! Tobi will teach you a few Hip-Hop and breakdancing moves that will blow your friends away and make you king of the party.
Tobi Omoteso has been dancing for 10 years having trained in Broadway Dance Centre, New-York. Back here in Ireland, Tobi has been awarded Hip Hop King of Ireland in 2005/06/07/08 and has won the Hip-Hop All-Ireland crew championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010, which gave him the opportunity to represent Ireland in Las Vegas. Tobi has also taught the finalists in Class Act (2006) and the All Ireland Talent Show (2009) which were aired on RTE 2 and he has appeared in numerous music video awards. Tobi got through to the live shows of the dance series on Sky One’s 'Got to Dance’. He also appears as a movement artist in the US hit TV show “Penny Dreadful”.

All That Jazz!: Lisa Tyrrell,Whynot Dance Company
Have you ever wanted to perform in front of a live audience? Well now is your chance so remove the wellies and come dance! Join Lisa for this slick, Jazz dance workshop. Her team of dancers will take you through a full body warm up and teach you a jazz routine. Participants and audiences will perform it together in the Dance Days area. Here’s your chance to shine at All That Jazz!
Lisa is the Artistic Director of Whynot Dance Company, a professional Jazz company which she formed in 2008 which performs regularly for TV, Theatre and corporate events. Lisa also runs a Jazz and Ballet school for adults in Dublin’s city centre. After graduating from The College of Dance Dublin in 1993 she was accepted into London Contemporary Dance School. Professionally she has danced with “Irish Modern Dance Theatre”, “New Balance Dance Company”, and “Chrysalis Dance”. Performances include “The Smirnoff Fashion Awards”, “Le Cenerentola” and “The Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony”. She has also danced in several TV shows and ads.

The Roaring 20's (Charleston): Lisa Darling, The Irish Burlesque School
Capture the spirit of the 1920s that is experiencing a huge revival around the world today. Learn the Charleston and other 1920s dances starting with the basics and working up to advanced steps. This workshop is very energetic, upbeat and danced to hot Jazz music.

Trip-nós: Sibéal Davitt
Trip-nós = sean-nós and disco! Join Sibéal for a fun, energetic workshop made up of 'sean-nós' steps which you will recognise and contemporary dance technique which you may not recognise! What exactly is 'sean-nós' dance? You’ll have to take part to find out… be prepared to sweat!
Sibéal Davitt is an Irish choreographer, dancer and teacher based in Dublin. Her style of dance is influenced by contemporary, classical and Irish traditional ‘sean-nós’ dance, having trained in all styles from an early age.

Bollyrobics: Mili Seth, Bollywood Beat
Bollyrobics is a fusion of Bollywood dance styles and aerobics - it’s intricate, it’s fun … it’s Bollywood and aerobics! Mili believes there is a closet Bollywood dancer in all of us. She wants to see you regardless of whether you are serious about learning Bollywood dance or you want a lively work-out. She promises to deliver both in this fun workshop!
Mili Seth is a trained Kathak dancer and started learning Kathak at the age of eight. She has always had a tremendous passion for free style dancing to music from Bollywood films. Since moving to Ireland 14 years ago, she has taught bollywood dance workshops in various primary and secondary schools in Dublin. Her first public performance was with UNITAS at Festival of colours and she has never looked back. She formed Bollywood Beats to teach Bollywood dancing to the next generation of young people.

Circus and Dance: Ali Clarke, Dublin Youth Dance Company
A fun dance-circus combo where you can learn some balancing and movement techniques from this highly skilled duo - Ali and Crispin. They will be teaching individual and partner work to build your technique and have you moving and balancing in no time.
Ali Clarke is a dancer from Ireland who is studying dance in the Netherlands. She is a contemporary dancer with a passion for acrobatics and circus performance. After 5 years of experience with Dublin Youth Dance Company she is branching out of the dance world to explore the interdisciplinary art of circus. Crispin is a German circus artist who specialises in the discipline of rope or corde lisse. He studied circus pedagogy before deciding to study circus performance in the Netherlands. He is passionate about teaching and sharing with people of all ages and abilities.

Dance Jam/Soul Music: Emily Kilkenny Roddy
Jam out to some of the best of music in a ‘good for the soul’ dance workshop. Indulge your body in the smooth spirit of Etta James and get rhythmic with The Temptations and everything in between. All levels are welcome to this fun, soulful dance jam.
Laois born dance artist, Emily Kilkenny Roddy trained for three years in Bray Institute of Further Education in the disciplines of jazz, classical ballet and contemporary. She choreographed and successfully auditioned original work for the BIFE end of year showcase for 3 years running. After receiving her HND she became a one year Top-Up student at the University of Chichester to receive her BA (hons) in Dance (2016). She has previously performed and worked with international company ATOM- r, and UK and Irish artists including Lea Anderson, Aisling O’Coineen, Nick Bryson and Karen Gleeson.
