DDF's DANCE DAYS returns to ELECTRIC PICNIC

Join us at Electric Picnic! Whether you’re feeling Festival zen or want to keep the energy pumping, Dublin Dance Festival has you covered at DANCE DAYS. There’s yoga flow, boogie bounce, breakdance, ballroom, burlesque – so come bust a move at this fun workshop series, suitable for all levels.

Festival Zumba - Justyna Mikolajczyk

Join Justyna as she kickstarts DANCE DAYS at the 2019 picnic. Back by popular demand her aim is to bring people together to ‘get their sweat on’. This workshop will mix low-intensity and high intensity moves to create a fun and energetic dance fitness party. With a soundtrack of Latin and world rhythms, you’ll be sure to have a pep in your step for the rest of the day. Perfect for every body and everybody!

Dance has been a huge part of Justyna Mikolajczyk’s life. She is a qualified Fitness Instructor, Certified Zumba® instructor and ZIN member. As part of a dance group, she has performed extensively throughout London, Poland, Portugal and Ireland. Justyna is also a presenter at the International Fitness Convention in Dublin each year.

All That Jazz! - Lisa Tyrrell, Whynot Dance Company

Kick off the wellies and join this slick, jazz dance workshop. Lisa and her team will take you through a full body warm up to some pumping high energy music before teaching you the signature Jazz moves like a ball change, split leap and pas de bourrée, all topped off with a little pirouetting. You will learn fun dance routines which slide through music from the 80's, 90's and noughties. Be prepared to dance your heart out!

Lisa is the Artistic Director of Whynot Dance Company, a professional Jazz company which she formed in 2008. The company performs regularly for TV, Theatre and corporate events. Lisa also runs a Jazz and Ballet school for adults in Dublin’s city centre. After graduating from The College of Dance Dublin in 1993 she was accepted into London Contemporary Dance School. Professionally, she has danced with “Irish Modern Dance Theatre”, “New Balance Dance Company”, and “Chrysalis Dance”. Performances include “The Smirnoff Fashion Awards”, “Le Cenerentola” and “The Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony”. She has also danced in several TV shows and ads.

Taking it Back: Breakdancing & Hip Hop - Tobi Omoteso

Hip Hop champion, Tobi Omoteso, makes a welcome return to Electric Picnic to teach you some iconic moves to get you noticed on the dance floor. With "the Worm", " Cabbage Patch", "The Wop" and "The Running man", his B-Boying workshop was a huge hit last year with Festival-goers. In a fun dance-off, the participants will hit the floor and battle it out to see who steals the accolade for best moves.

Tobi Omoteso has been dancing for over 10 years, having trained in Broadway Dance Centre, New York. Some of his achievements include being awarded Hip-Hop King of Ireland six years in a row, winning the Hip-Hop All-Ireland Crew Championships 2008-2010 and placing 6th in a major international competition with his break dance crew Recession Squad Ninjas. Performances include Electric Picnic, Imagine Arts Festival and Dublin Dance Festival, as well as TV appearances in Class Act (RTÉ, 2006), the All Ireland Talent Show (RTÉ 2, 2009), Got to Dance (Sky One, 2012), US TV show Penny Dreadful and multiple music videos and commercial appearances.

Hoop Dance - Laura Ivers

Want to try something new? Hoop Dance is just the activity for you! Returning from the 2017 DANCE DAYS line-up, this workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn basic techniques and tricks through the exploration of dynamic, flowing and sequential movements that will enable them to be creative, play and dance freely with a hoop. Come along and learn a short, simple and fun choreography to kick-start your Hoop Dance journey!

Laura has been working professionally as a circus artist and teaching circus arts for over 6 years. She is an expert hoop artist with a stylistic focus on technicality brought to life through contemporary and emotive choreographies. As well as hoop, Laura is a competent performer and teacher of object manipulation (juggling, diabolo, hat, staff), flow arts skills, basic acrobatics and clown. Laura has performed her stage, street and walkabout acts across Ireland, the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Russia. She also works as an artistic director for original circus theatre productions and is Chairperson of Dublin Circus Project and a Director of the Irish Street Arts, Circus and Spectacle Network.

Salsa, Cha Cha Cha – Justine Doswell

Unleash your latin fever and sway those hips to sunshine rhythms! Dancing to the modern latin sounds of Carly B, Nicky Jam, J-Balvin, J-Lo, and Shakira, you can throw away any inhibitions and concentrate on Salsa, Cha Cha Cha and Merengue. We'll awaken your inner Cubanito and have you dancing with the person next to you in no time!

Born in Barbados, Justine grew up in the Caribbean to the sound of steel bands and Cuban congas. It was in Havana that she fell in love with dancing and, aged 12, returned to the UK where she began her professional training as a dancer. In 1997 she made Dublin her home. She has had a diverse career spanning 25 years, travelling the world working in dance, theatre, TV, film and fashion. She teaches a range of dance styles to all ages and abilities.

Boogie Bounce - Emma Weafer, JumpFit

Choreographed to chart topping music, The Boogie Bounce workshop is a groovy workout on a mini trampoline. Emma will lead you through fun, non-impact routines to some pumping tunes! Work those muscles to get yourself festival fit. This workshop is soooo much fun!

Emma has been in the fitness industry for over 12 years as a personal trainer, former fitness model competitor, Crossfit Gym manager and group fitness instructor. Over the years Emma has instructed many different types of group classes but wanted to discover a different way to health and fitness that was unique, effective and above all extremely enjoyable for everyone, all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. Emma discovered Boogie Bounce, a mini trampoline fitness class born in the UK, in 2010 and brought it to Ireland. It was the first of its kind & has proven to be extremely successful since.

Nouveau Burlesque - Lisa Darling, The Irish Burlesque School
Spice up your Electric Picnic and feel like a modern-day pin-up with a Nouveau Burlesque workshop with the Irish Burlesque Academy. Nouveau Burlesque is the newest and one of the most exciting forms of Burlesque. We will cover Nouveau techniques from walks to hips to isolations, some bump n' grind and even some twerking! We will then incorporate them into a fun sassy routine! You will finish feeling good and strutting your stuff for the rest of the weekend!

Lisa Darling is the Artistic Director of The Irish Burlesque Academy. She has worked in various musicals, dance shows and theatre productions all over the UK, France, the Abbey Theatre, Dublin and even London’s West End. Lisa directed Ireland’s first Burlesque theatre production, 'Midnight in the Republic,' at the Gaiety Theatre in 2016. She now also produces and choreographs Ireland’s biggest burlesque shows.

Yoga Sound System – Laura Farrington

Yoga Sound System is a harmonic mix of music and yoga. Find some zen at this year’s picnic and enjoy the benefits of yoga with a back drop of beats. Led by Laura Farrington, this workshop will rejuvenate you and leave you festival-ready!

Yoga Sound System was founded by Ronan Mahon who is both a DJ and personal trainer and Rachael Hegarty, a seasoned events producer. Laura Farrington is a Yoga teacher and Personal Trainer. She runs www.irishyogagirl.com with her partner George and is Yoga Ambassador for Flyefit Gyms. Her classes range from restorative and therapeutic to powerful and energetic.
