Calling Young Film Makers & Dancers! Take part in a Film & Dance Project with CoisCéim BROADREACH

SUMMER INTENSIVE FILM + DANCE PROJECT WITH COISCÉIM BROADREACH

26th JUNE – 31st JULY 2016

Young film makers and dancers aged 15-25 are invited to share their experiences of being young in Ireland in 2016, through a film and dance project called WHERE ARE WE NOW? with CoisCéim BROADREACH, running this summer in Dublin. Challenging, imaginative and a lot fun, the initiative will offer young creatives the chance to develop new skills in film and dance and meet other like-minded people. The project is mentored by expert film maker Peter Kelly (Film Circle Productions) and professional choreographer Philippa Donnellan, and will involve the creation and production of a series of short dance films as part of Dublin City Council Arts Office Commemoration Programme 1916-2016.

Whether you are born and bred here or have come to Ireland from another country – your experience is valuable. Do you have a story to tell? Have your say and make it happen in dance, text, music, sound and video.

Young film-makers will:
Gain hands-on experience in the use of professional film equipment (camera, lights, sound)
Scout for suitable locations and settings and learn appropriate camera/lighting techniques and approaches
Make the films and be mentored through all stages of the film process from pre-production, production and post-production

Young dancers will:
Train in Contemporary Dance techniques
Explore creating choreography for the camera in different locations
Work with other young dancers to devise and create new material
Perform in the dance films

Working together, everyone will be involved in researching themes, creating stories and pitching film ideas for selection – and choosing the films to be made. In this lively process, participants will have the chance to explore a variety of roles from choreographer and director to performer, camera person or sound technician, helping to choose locations, coordinating costume design and sourcing music and sound, as well as shooting or editing one of the films. The films produced will be screened publicly as part of Dublin City Council Arts Office – Young Dublin Commemoration Programme 1916-2016.

TIMETABLE

WHERE ARE WE NOW? will be run from the centrally located CoisCéim studio, 14 Sackville Place, Dublin 1, just off O’Connell Street. Initial sessions will take place there, with activities also likely to take place in other areas of Dublin, depending on the development of the project.
