Dancing in the kitchen: actor Steve Blount explains the origins of 'Swing'

"Janet and I had a wonderful dance about ten years ago, in a kitchen at a party. And we said, jokingly, wouldn’t it be great if we could dance in a show together? And then the 'show in a bag' thing [an initiative of Irish Theatre Institute, Dublin Fringe Festival, and Fishamble] came up, and Janet contacted me and asked would I like to make a show about dancing for it. And I thought ‘Well, a beautiful woman has just asked me to dance.’

So we met in Connolly station to have a coffee, and banged off a couple of ideas for the show in a bag.

Once we got in front of an audience, we knew we had something… it was just one of those things where there’s wind in the sails, and off we go!"
