As the curtain opens, a stream of rice drizzles onto the head of an Asian monk. Tonnes of golden grains ricochet and rain down to form an ever changing landscape through which some 20 extraordinary Cloud Gate dancers (trained in chi kung, meditation, internal martial arts, modern dance, ballet, and calligraphy) move. Set to soulful Georgian folk songs of the Rustavi Choir, this visually sensational production has enthralled audiences worldwide.
Internationally renowned, choreographer Lin Hwai-min often draws from traditional Asian culture for inspiration to create works with innovative forms and contemporary relevance. He has been honoured with numerous international awards, including the John D. Rockefeller 3rd Award, the Ramon Magsaysay Award, considered the “Nobel Prize of Asia,” the “Best Choreographer” at the Lyon Biennial Festival, and the “Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters” from the French Ministry of Culture. In 2009, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Movimentos Dance Prize, Germany.
