Many Bodies Symposium

Thursday, 22nd April 2010

Welcome to the virtual home of “The Many Bodies of Contemporary Dance”.

On this page we’d like to share a select number of interesting articles and videos on our keynote speakers Raimund Hoghe and Tere O’Connor, who’ll be in conversation, live, in DanceHouse on May 19 at The Many Bodies of Contemporary Dance symposium.  In the meantime though, and as the 2010 festival unfolds (we just can’t wait til the 19th!), we’d like to get a virtual conversation going between all of us curious and keen spectators (that means you and me), over at www.creativedialogueireland.com.  We hope there’s just enough background info and little glimpses of their many-bodied work here to get the virtual conversation rolling over at our online forum on www.creativedialogueireland.com.  Go forth, register, and have your say!

Just to jog your memory, and get the ball rolling, dear virtual conversationalist:

Firstly, here is a link to the amazing Caroline Bowditch of Girl Jonah in an RTÉ Dance on the Box video diary from the 2008 Dublin Dance festival, showing, and telling about, her choreography.  We’re thrilled that Caroline is coming all the way from Scotland to share her take on The Many Bodies of Contemporary Dance with us at DanceHouse on May 19.

Fleshing it out a little more we have some articles on German wunderkind Raimund Hoghe by writer Mary Kate Connolly (who’ll be a panellist on May 19th). Read her article, An Audience with the Other, here.

And here’s an interview she conducted with Hoghe in 2008 for Dance Theatre Journal.

As soon as they get back to us (they’re busy rehearsing their festival shows) we’ll also be posting up many-bodied material from our other extraordinary panellists David Bolger, Artistic Director of CoisCéim, and John Scott, Artistic Director of Irish Modern Dance Theatre.

Basically, we wanted to create a virtual space totally dedicated to you, oh spectator, where you can voice your opinions, thoughts, reflections, and engage with other enthusiasts of “The Many Bodies of Contemporary Dance”.

So if you can’t make it to the symposium at DanceHouse on May 19, don’t sweat it. Take a gander around this page, mull over the festival programme, take in a few shows, and share your thoughts, feelings, and reflections with like-minds and many-bodies, over at www.creativedialogueireland.com. We’d love you to take ownership of the many bodies conversation – because as far as we’re concerned, it’s all about YOU.
